A Tribute from the Provincial Grand Master Brother James Bell
Our Immediate Past Provincial Grand Master Brother William Caven Steel (Billy) passed to the Grand Lodge Above on Sunday 24th November.
Brother Steel was a committed Freemason who gave his time and advice freely for the benefit of all in the Province. He was a Commissioned Office-bearer for twenty five years, serving four Provincial Grand Masters before being Commissioned himself as Provincial Grand Master in 2018.
His leadership skills came to the fore during the Covid pandemic and he was tireless in communicating with all our Lodges during that time of lockdown.
Brother Steel was a Past Master of Lodge Loudoun (Kilwinning) Newmilns No.51 and Lodge Darvel No.971. He served both these Lodges faithfully for nearly 50 years.
He was an accomplished ritualist and sought after Installing Master. His contribution to the wellbeing of the Province can never be overstated and we are the poorer for his passing.
